OffVendor is an independent IT-migration decision engine. For any "Product A to Product B" path it explains why teams are re-evaluating the incumbent, gives a side-by-side cost comparison, lays out a phase-by-phase migration plan with the right tooling, and provides a guided requirements builder you can take to a vendor or distributor for a binding quote. It exists because the hardest part of leaving an expensive platform is rarely the technology, it is getting a clear, honest picture of the effort and the savings before you commit.

Why we built this

Over the past few years a wave of licensing changes reshaped enterprise IT budgets: Broadcom's overhaul of VMware, HashiCorp's move to the BSL license, the end of life of CentOS Linux, repricing across Citrix, Cloud Software Group, and others, and steadily rising per-user and usage-based bills for monitoring, identity, and databases. Teams everywhere started asking the same questions: what are the credible alternatives, how much would we actually save, and how hard is the migration really? The answers were scattered across vendor marketing, forum threads, and consultants' inboxes. OffVendor pulls them into one place, structured the same way for every migration path so you can compare like with like.

What we do

• Compare alternatives across virtualization, databases, backup and DR, monitoring, storage, identity, security, networking, load balancing, messaging, CI/CD, data warehousing, AI/LLMs, and cloud.
• Model a realistic 3-year total cost of ownership with product-specific sizing inputs (physical cores, vCPUs, TB, users, hosts, endpoints, and so on) and an optional support tier.
• Plan the migration end-to-end: assessment, target design and sizing, a pilot wave, waved production migration, validation, and decommissioning, with the tooling that fits each step.
• Quote: generate a requirements report (RFQ) to send to an authorized distributor or partner for binding pricing, then feed those real numbers back into the calculator.

How our guidance is researched

Each migration path is documented from the same building blocks: the licensing and cost model of the source product, the commonly reported reasons teams re-evaluate it, the open-source or lower-cost destinations that are genuinely viable, and the established tooling used to move workloads (for example ora2pg for Oracle to PostgreSQL, virt-v2v and vendor V2V tools for hypervisor moves, migrate2rocky and almalinux-deploy for RHEL-family conversions, and OpenTelemetry-based stacks for observability). We describe migration effort qualitatively (low, medium, high) and in rough weeks for a mid-size estate, because the honest answer always depends on your specific environment. Where a step is genuinely hard or a feature does not port cleanly, we say so rather than glossing over it.

All cost and sizing figures shown on the site are illustrative and fully editable: they are starting points compiled from public information, not guaranteed vendor prices. Real, binding pricing comes from an authorized distributor or partner via the quote request. Always validate against current vendor list prices and your own quotes before making a decision.
